A mahavakya such as Tat Tvam Asi (that thou art) is a profound statement revealing the identity between jiva, individual (denoted by the word Tvam), and Isvara (denoted by the word Tat), implying there by that the contradiction that we feel obtaining between the two, is mithya (apparent).
