These six verses on the silent, unchanging self by Shankara are a declaration of his own direct and intimately clear knowledge of the limitless self (Brahman). The verses discuss the nature of absolute peace, tranquility, freedom, and joy, which are not different from the nature of the self. Meditating on the verses can stimulate the discovery that all mental emotions while being in the universal order of the Atma, the Atma is not the emotions, but remains ever free from any changes in the mind. Swamiji illuminates Shankara’s exposition in these twelve classes given during the 2005 Yoga and Sound retreat.
